Education Savings Account

Arkansas

Education Freedom Accounts (EFA)

Checked 18 September 2026

How it works

Created by the LEARNS Act, EFAs give families money for private school tuition, homeschool curriculum, tutoring, educational therapies and other qualifying services. The application is on the FACTS portal; once awarded, you pay approved vendors or claim reimbursement with receipts through ClassWallet. 2026-27 deposits are scheduled for 20 August 2026, 29 October 2026, February 2027 and 8 April 2027.

Who qualifies

Universal since 2025-26 — every Arkansas K-12 student eligible to enrol in a public school qualifies, with no income cap. EFA students have an annual testing requirement; details are on the state’s SchoolChoiceAR site.

How to apply

  1. Confirm your child is eligible for this year — see "Who qualifies" above.
  2. Check this year's window. The 2026-27 window ran 9 March to 1 June 2026 and is closed. The state says applications submitted late may be considered later only if funding allows, with no guarantee. Families must apply or renew every year for every child — watch the Department of Education page for the 2027-28 dates. Dates move every year, so confirm on the official page before you plan around them.
  3. Create a parent account on the official portal and start the application.
  4. Have your documents ready. Most programmes want proof of residency, the child's birth certificate, and an IEP or eligibility determination if the programme is disability-based.
  5. Once you're approved, spend it. Homeschool curriculum is named as an approved expense. Pay through an approved ClassWallet vendor or submit a reimbursement with an itemised receipt.

Official programme page: dese.ade.arkansas.gov/offices/office-of-school-choice-and-parent-empowerment/education-freedom-accounts/information-for-families. Amounts, deadlines and eligibility are set by the state and change every year — always confirm there before you plan around them.
