Georgia Promise Scholarship

Checked 18 September 2026

What this means for homeschool families

Only some homeschooled students. Only for a child leaving a public school in the zone of a lowest-performing school. A child who is already homeschooled does not qualify.

If your child does qualify, the details are below.

How it works

Created by Senate Bill 233 in 2024, the Promise Scholarship lets families use state funds for non-public education in grades K-12, including home study. Eligible uses include tuition, fees, required textbooks, curriculum and supplemental materials, tutoring and therapies. Accounts and payments run through Odyssey.

Who qualifies

Targeted rather than universal. The student must have been enrolled in a Georgia public school for the two most recent consecutive semesters (or be a rising kindergartener), and live in the attendance zone of a school on the state’s list of the lowest-performing 25%. The parent must have lived in Georgia for at least a year, with an exception for active-duty military. A child who is already homeschooled does not qualify — this is for families leaving a public school.

How to apply

  1. Confirm your child is eligible for this year — see "Who qualifies" above.
  2. Check this year's window. The last two 2026-27 windows are 1–31 August 2026 (now closed) and 1–30 November 2026. Spring-semester applicants must have household income at or below 400% of the federal poverty level. Dates move every year, so confirm on the official page before you plan around them.
  3. Create a parent account on the official portal and start the application.
  4. Have your documents ready. Most programmes want proof of residency, the child's birth certificate, and an IEP or eligibility determination if the programme is disability-based.
  5. Once you're approved, spend it. Curriculum and supplemental materials are eligible. Search the Odyssey marketplace for Historical Conquest.

Official programme page: gsfc.georgia.gov/programs-and-regulations/georgia-promise-scholarship. Amounts, deadlines and eligibility are set by the state and change every year — always confirm there before you plan around them.
