Privately funded scholarship

New York City

Children's Scholarship Fund NYC — Homeschool Scholarship

Checked 18 September 2026

How it works

This is a privately funded scholarship, not a government programme. New York State has no ESA or tax credit for homeschooling. CSF New York offers a small homeschool scholarship alongside its better-known private school scholarships. Approved families buy educational goods and services through a digital wallet provided by CSF, within its list of acceptable expenses.

Programme
Children's Scholarship Fund NYC — Homeschool Scholarship
Administered by
Children's Scholarship Fund New York (8 West 38th St, Suite 804, New York NY 10018 — 212-515-7137)
Scholarship amount
Up to $1,000 per child a year for homeschooled students, spent through a CSF digital wallet. (CSF’s separate private school scholarship averaged $2,757 in 2025-26, and families pay at least 25% of tuition.)
For homeschoolers
Homeschoolers can use it

Who qualifies

New York City residents with a child aged 5 by 31 December 2026, entering kindergarten to grade 8, whose family income is at or below CSF’s income guidelines. You must provide your 2026-27 Letter of Intent to homeschool and your Individualized Home Instruction Plan (IHIP), each with proof the NYC Department of Education received it, plus a 2025-26 report card for grades 1-8.

Choosing a private school instead? CSF’s private school scholarship also has an income limit, requires enrolment at a CSF participating school, and expects the family to pay at least 25% of tuition. Apply at nyc.scholarshipfund.org/application.

How to apply

  1. Confirm your child is eligible — see "Who qualifies" above.
  2. Check this year's window. Each spring, email CSF to ask for a pre-application eligibility screening. If you pass it, you submit the full application online. Returning families had to requalify by 31 July 2026. Returning families get priority, and after that places go first come, first served, so ask CSF now whether any 2026-27 places are left. Dates move every year, so confirm on the official page before you plan around them.
  3. Have your documents ready — the organisation lists what it needs on its application page.
  4. Once you're approved, spend it. Purchases go through the CSF digital wallet. Check CSF’s Acceptable/Unacceptable Expenses list before you order, and ask us if you need an invoice or product details for their review.

Official programme page: nyc.scholarshipfund.org. Amounts, deadlines and eligibility are set by the state and change every year — always confirm there before you plan around them.
