Steamboat Legacy Scholarship (Education Savings Account)
Checked 18 September 2026
How it works
The 2024 Education Savings Account Act, amended by the Steamboat Legacy Scholarship Act in 2025, gives families an annual account for private school tuition, textbooks and curriculum, tutoring, classes, educational technology and other approved costs. Money is spent through the Odyssey marketplace, and some categories, including K-12 curriculum covering history or civics, can be reimbursed. Questions go to wde-esa@wyo.gov or help.wy@withodyssey.com.

- Administered by
- Wyoming Department of Education, with accounts and the marketplace run by Odyssey
- Amount
- $7,000 per student per year, in quarterly payments (early September, November, February and May). Students approved for 2025-26 may also roll over a $1,750 payment into 2026-27.

- Homeschoolers can use it
Who qualifies
Wyoming residents in grades K-12 who are not enrolled in a public school, with no income limit. Pre-kindergarten children (age 4) qualify only at or below 250% of the federal poverty guidelines. Parents must make sure the child is taught the core subjects and takes a state or nationally norm-referenced assessment.
How to apply
- Confirm your child is eligible for this year — see "Who qualifies" above.
- Check this year's window. The 2026-27 application reopened in July 2026, after the court ruling, and closed on 6 August 2026. Families were told their status by 1 September. Watch the WDE page for the 2027-28 window. Dates move every year, so confirm on the official page before you plan around them.
- Create a parent account on the official portal and start the application.
- Have your documents ready. Most programmes want proof of residency, the child's birth certificate, and an IEP or eligibility determination if the programme is disability-based.
- Once you're approved, spend it. Search for Historical Conquest in the Odyssey marketplace. Curriculum is named in the approved-expense list, and K-12 curriculum covering history or civics is also a reimbursable category.
Official programme page: edu.wyoming.gov/parents/education-savings-accounts. Amounts, deadlines and eligibility are set by the state and change every year — always confirm there before you plan around them.
