Tournament FAQ

Questions about running and attending tournaments.

For questions about game play, see our Rules and game FAQ pages. This page is about tournaments.
What does it cost to host?
Nothing. Hosting is free, and you receive rare cards for your players, prizes for your winners, and ambassador pricing on merchandise after your first tournament.
Can I charge players to attend?
Yes — fees are optional, and around $5 is typical, to cover promotional materials and your expenses. Many hosts offer free entrance to a player who brings a friend.
How much notice do you need?
Two weeks. That gives us time to send you that month’s rare cards and a possible prize for the Grand Champion.
Where should I hold it?
Somewhere accessible to everyone — libraries often have meeting rooms for non-profit groups, and game stores, schools and churches all work well. Please avoid private residences for the safety and comfort of attendees, unless it’s a private homeschool group.
How do the rounds work?
Tables of 3–4 players. Winners of each table gather for a second round; second-place players from round one gather at another table. A third round between the second-round winners decides the Grand Champion.
How do players get ranked nationally?
Send us your attendees and winners after each event and we post them to the National Bracketing System.
